KRISTINE CHALIFOUX is the author of the chapbook, In The Light, and her
poetry has appeared in numerous literary magazines including Agni Review,
Brooklyn Review, Janus Head, and others. She holds an MFA from Columbia
University and is a recipient of an Illinois Arts Council Award. Formerly
associate director of DePaul University’s Honors program, she is currently
teaching English at Raleigh Charter High School in Raleigh, NC. She lives
with her spouse, the poet James A. Hawley, her daughter, Ktimene Edgrin,
two dogs, and one cat.
CARLA CUBIT lives in New York City. She is a visual artist and sculptor in
Folk Arts whose work consists of highly spiritual small mixed media and multi
media assemblage pieces using many found objects. Her sculptures and
drawings reflect her deep belief in religion, spirituality, and mysticism.
KATY E. DOYLE continues to put pen to paper because a high school
English teacher once threatened: “If you don’t become a writer, I will hunt you
down and hurt you.” She remains unharmed, living and writing in Valencia,
CA with her two best friends: her husband and her dog. Her work was
nominated for the UCLA Kirkwood Prize in 2005 and will be presented as part
of August 2007’s New Short Fiction Series.
GLORIA DUNHAM lives in Phoenix, AZ. She is a student at Phoenix College
and a clerk at the Phoenix Public Library. These poems are her first
published efforts. She writes that the poem "Reckless" was inspired by her
grandson Caden, who is "the beat of her heart."
LLEVELAND, self-taught artist with a passion for Outsider Art, integrates
mixed media collages and acrylics on canvas. L has exhibited at many
galleries and museums in the New York City area, including Gallery Juno NYC
and Diffusion Art. Permanent collections include Luzerne Chamber, Rogue
Gallery, and a commissioned installation honoring the WTC Fallen
Firefighters and Police Officers in NYC. L says: "A creative person must
overcome the fear of ridicule. They must be daring and even foolish at
times. After all, 'an apple is just an apple'. . . so what if it looks like an

MARGARET FIELAND Born and raised in New York City, Margaret Fieland
has been around art and music all her life. She is an accomplishhed flute
and piccolo player and the daughter of a painter. She is published in
"Shattering Silence: Reclaiming the Voice of Social Awareness through
Poetry and Art" and "Imprint: Enlightening, thought-provoking and uplifting

TODD FREDSON is a graduate student in the M.F.A. program at Arizona
State University. He is co-editor of the international section for Hayden’s
Ferry Review and teaches creative writing residencies in elementary and high
schools throughout the Phoenix area. His poems are forthcoming in First
Intensity, Poetry International and Diner.
RICHARD GRAYSON lives in Brooklyn. He is a retired lawyer and teacher.
His short stories have appeared in literary magazines and webzines since
1975 and in book-length collections that include With Hitler in New York, I
Survived Caracas Traffic, The Silicon Valley Diet, Highly Irregular Stories and
And to Think That He Kissed Him on Lorimer Street.
JAMES A. HAWLEY received an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia
University in 1988 and was the recipient of an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship,
1989-1990. His poems have appeared in The Salt River Review, The Iowa
Review, American Letters & Commentary, The Brooklyn Review and Porch
Magazine. Division & Ashland was selected by West Town Press (Chicago, Il)
for publication in its inaugural chapbook competition. He lives near Rolesville,
North Carolina with his spouse, the poet Kristine Chalifoux, and their
daughter, Katie Edgrin.
PETER KRASS is a poetry teacher with the Writers Studio in New York,
where he is also a member of poet Philip Schultz's master class. Peter is also
the poetry editor of West View, a Greenwich Village community newspaper.
To earn his keep, Peter works as a freelance editor, writer and editorial
consultant. He lives in Brooklyn, NY.
RANDY LINDSAY A native Arizonan, Randy lives in Glendale, AZ, with his
lovely wife and seven children. He is a creative writing student at Phoenix
College. This is his first published story.
ALBERT MAAS is an administrator who lives in Tempe, AZ. These are his
first published poems.
MARIO MATTEI is a creative writing and linguistics student at Arizona State
University. He is working on a novel, Noon Chai Escape, set in the Himalayas
of Kashmir, where he formerly lived, and facilitates a Tempe writing group.
His poetry has appeared in Marooned. A former commercial artist, he enjoys
music, fine cuisine, photography, the outdoors, and most of all, people.
Mario and his wife currently await the arrival of their first daughter, Isabella.
SHEILA McMULLIN often dreams of caterpillars on schooners. She is a
creative writing student at Arizona State University and is in the process of
completing her first collection of poetry, Galatica Postmortem. Caleb and
Postmortem are her first published works.
TAMIKO MURRAY An ex-Southern California now living in the mountains of
western North Carolina with her two daughters, she is the former culture
editor of The Asheville Global Report. Her short stories have appeared in the
literary magazine Headwaters, and readings of her work are part of a
compilation CD, Word Play, produced by WPVM, 103.5 FM, Asheville. She
earned a B.A. in Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina-Asheville.
SUSIE OH is an emerging artist living in Brooklyn. Her work can be viewed

NITA PENFOLD’s poetry has been called luminous and soul-stirring. She
identifies the poetry in a contemporary woman’s life through relationships and
passages, digging deep for the taste of the grit and honey in everyday life.
Her work has been published recently in the anthologies, Woman Prayers
and Sacred Voices, both edited by Mary Ford Grabowski. Her chapbooks,
Mile-High Blue-Sky Pie and The Woman With the Wild-Grown Hair were
published by Pudding House Publications. She edited the anthology, Hunger
Enough: Living Spiritually in a Consumer Society and is an editor emeritus
for Earth’s Daughters. Nita Penfold was transplanted from New York to New
England 20 years ago and still considers the hills of Western New York her
soul’s true home.
SUZANNE AUDREY REEVES is attending art school in Augusta, Georgia.
Besides writing, her creative passions include music and photography. Her
three poems in Gentle Strength Quarterly’s inaugural issue were her first
works to appear in print.
SAROSKA’s works can be viewed online at www.saroska.com. She has
studied art at various institutes and universities in Seattle, New York, and
Madrid. She currently teaches art at La Guardia Community College, the
Musuem for African Art, and Hunter College. She is also a curator for the
New York Public Library. Her work has been displayed in numerous New York
galleries and libraries as well as at the United Nations. In Madrid, she is
represented by the prestigious Duran Auctions House.
COURTNEY ANN SMITH received her bachelor's degree in psychology with
a concentration in English. She lives in San Francisco with her cat Lux and
her boyfriend Jeremy. She enjoys photography, storm chasing, and reading
fairy tales and literary classics.
INGRID SUNDBERG lives in North Hollywood, CA. Her artwork has been
exhibited in many arenas throughout America, including the NoHo Gallery LA
and The Foundry Art Center. She has been published in a wide variety of
magazines and books, including The Mountain Astrologer, Sage Woman, and

SARAH VAP grew up in Missoula, Montana. She received her M.F.A. degree
in poetry at Arizona State University in 2005. She currently teaches creative
writing at Phoenix College, and in Phoenix public schools for ASU’s Young
Writers Program. Her work has been recently published, or is forthcoming, in
FIELD, Diner, Barrow Street, Denver Quarterly, Court Green, Blackbird, and
Natural Bridge. She is currently an editor of poetry at the online journal,
42opus.
CLAIRE ADELE WEISS was born in Boston, MA. She is a student at the
University of New Hampshire, where she tutors both graduate and
undergraduate students at the university's writing center. She has had
numerous poems and stories published in TheWritOracle, and was also
www.thewrit.org's Writer of the Month for October 2005. Her travels have
recently taken her to Israel, India, and South Africa.
EMMA ZIMMERMAN is a native of Tempe, Arizona and is finishing up a
bachelors degree in Bioengineering at Arizona State University and is an
aspiring Bioethicist. Her research interests include composing music based
on physiological signals. She also enjoys classical western literature and
world travel. She is indebted to the critique and encouragement of her local
writing group, Sun-Dried Ink.
